Keynote: Lead the Way Together Dr. Holly Sawyer, better known as Dr. Holly, is the Director of the Masters in Addictions Counseling (MAC) program and Assistant Clinical Professor in the department of Counseling and Family Therapy at Drexel University in Philadelphia. Prior to her employment at Drexel University, she was a clinical director at an intensive outpatient treatment facility and clinical supervisor at a methadone clinic. For 20 years, Dr. Holly has been teaching in the areas of k-12, Adult Basic Education and Higher Education. She is the CEO and lead psychotherapist at her solo practice, Life First Therapy where she helps professional Black women navigate microaggressions in the workplace by helping them find their inner power through assertiveness without using substances to cope. She’s a licensed professional counselor (LPC), a national certified counselor (NCC), certified advanced alcohol and drug counselor (CAADC), DOT qualified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) and PA certified board endorsed clinical supervisor. Dr. Holly is also a highly sought after international mental health public speaker. She is the author of Get Your Mind Right, Get Your Money Right! The Mental Health Guide for Successful Entrepreneurs and It's Time to Talk About Trauma. She's been featured on Philadelphia's Fox News 29, in the Philadelphia Inquirer, USA Today, and more. |

Peers at the Intersections and Intercepts of our Criminal-Legal and Behavioral Health Systems This workshop will explore how counties and courts successfully divert adults in crisis while experiencing mental health and substance-use issues, into behavioral health programs and services and away from our jails and prisons. We will use the Sequential Intercept Mapping (SIM) model to visualize the spectrum of intercepts, community and system services, and governance structures. We will also discuss critical peer-support opportunities as well as specific places where we can all collaborate for systemic change. |

Unhoused Mental Health Consumers: Issues and Rights The workshop will address how unhoused populations are uniquely impacted by California's mental health laws. The workshop will explain the legal standard for involuntary holds and conservatorships based on "grave disability." Specific advocacy tips for avoiding holds and conservatorship will be offered and some lesser known patients' rights will be covered. Additionally, the basic rights of a respondent in CARE Court will be addressed along with tips for when the respondent should assert their rights. |
